7 Years of Public (book)

I believe in golden birthdays. A golden birthday is when you turn the same age as the day you were born. For example, we opened on September 7th and this year we turned 7, making it our golden birthday. Back in January 2026, as we began to consider the year ahead of us, I knew I wanted to do something special for our 7th year anniversary and that's how this project was born.

One of the first things that came to mind was creating some sort of yearbook, something to capture all the memories. I knew I couldn't do it alone, but even more than that, I wanted help from someone who had experience making great books. And that's how I came to think of the artists behind Echoz Magazine. Callie & Aydin helped us over the next 6-7 months, digging for pictures, scanning old flyers, formatting, designing, meeting, & much more!

While I wish this book provided a full and complete picture of our journey, it just doesn't. Some moments were not well documented or fell through the cracks. The smaller, quieter moments weren't documented at all. If you read in between the pages, you'll understand there were slow days, hard days, cancellations, doubt, and frustration. But we made it this far and that's enough to celebrate!

I also added this book to the RI Collections at the Providence Public Library at 50 Empire Street downtown. Imagine Providence residents in 150 years from now doing research on the artists, creative businesses and spaces that existed before them and finding this! It includes hundreds of artists and friends who have supported us & kept Public going this long. We made history, y'all!

Please note, you don't have to wait that long. Although you can't check it out of the library, you can visit the Reading Room on the 3rd floor and look through it there for free.
